In the community
The main work of the Bank makes a vital contribution to society as a whole, but we also give back to the wider community in a number of other important ways.
One part of this is encouraging our staff to get involved in community projects. While some choose to do this on their own initiative, others take part in the programmes that are offered by our Community Relations team – some of which are based in some of the most deprived boroughs in the UK.
As well as supporting our staff’s voluntary work by allowing additional leave, we also use our various award schemes to make donations to the organisations, schools and colleges they support. And various fundraising events are held throughout the year, including a quiz night in the staff restaurant and a bonfire evening at our Sports Club in Roehampton.
We also offer our people the chance to be mentors or volunteers in local schools. One of our programmes, for example, raises awareness of careers in the City of London among academically-able students from inner-London schools. The initiative builds relationships with pupils throughout their time in the sixth form and at university, and provides opportunities to meet the Bank’s graduates, take part in economic discussions and find out how the selection process works.
