Bank of England

Initial Entry Scheme

Our Initial Entry programme is open to individuals with A Level or equivalent qualifications (e.g. International or Welsh Baccalaureate, Scottish Higher, Irish Leaving Certificate or BTEC Nationals) for permanent recruitment.

If you would qualify for our graduate programme, then this scheme is not suitable for you.  This scheme is not aimed at those with a university degree.

Opportunities are mainly available in three areas of the Bank:

In Banking Services the main focus will be to undertake operational Banking work. This involves processing of financial data, often to tight deadlines and requires a high level of accuracy. These roles will give you the opportunity to gain first hand experience of the banking processes of a major financial institution.

In the Monetary and Financial Statistics Division recruits will be required to process statistical data in a timely and accurate fashion.

In Information Systems and Technology positions are available throughout the Division and include strategic roles, technical support and application development.  All recruits must have excellent customer facing skills for liaising with clients across the Bank.  Candidates who are interested in working in IT should select the Initial Entry - IT application form.

There will also be a small number of research and clerical based opportunities in other areas of the Bank.

Recruits to the scheme will follow a formal development programme for the first two and a half years and will have the opportunity to study for additional professional qualifications relevant to your role and the Bank. Please view the downloadable brochure for further information.

We are now open for applications for Initial Entry positions starting in 2012.  The deadline for applications is 5pm 0n Monday 20th February 2012.  Please access the application form here.
